1923 - 2015 BRATTLEBORO Ellen Minerva Pond, 91, formerly of the Holton Home and a longtime resident of Pond Road, (Maple Street Ext.) passed away Sunday morning, May 10, at the Thompson House. Mrs. Pond was born in Montague, Mass. on Sept. 23, 1923, the daughter of Allen and Marcia (Sexton) Burnham. She was raised and educated in Montague graduating from Turners Falls High School. She had been employed for several years for Lewis R. Brown Photography and Stationary Shop on lower Main Street. She later worked as a proofreader at the former BookPress in Brattleboro. Mrs. Pond was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Bingham Chapter #30 in Brattleboro and was a longtime member of Centre Congregational Church. Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed travel, knitting, and assisting with the tag sales at Saint Michael's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Pond also volunteered every summer at the AAUW Annual Book Sales at Centre Congregational Church. On April 11, 1945, at Centre Congregational Church she was married to Warren W. Pond. Her husband of 44 years pre-deceased her on July 6, 1989. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, as well as her extended family at both the Holton Home and Thompson House. She was predeceased by four brothers, and three sisters. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside committal services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 in Chesterfield West Cemetery on Poor Road in Chesterfield. Members of the Bingham Chapter #30, Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Pond's name may be made to The Holton Home, 158 Western Avenue, Brattleboro, VT 05301. Arrangements are under the direction of the ATAMANIUK FUNERAL HOME.
