Eugene L. Morse

1936-2016 VERNON Eugene "Gene" L. Morse age 80 of Vernon, VT passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at his home, surrounded by family after a long bout with health issues. Gene was born in Jacksonville, Vermont on January 2, 1936 to Wendell P. and Hilma (Bishop) Morse. He graduated from Whitingham High School in 1953. He then entered the US Navy and was honorably discharged with the rank of EM1, after serving four years, including Boot Camp in Bainbridge, MD, Electrician School at Great Lakes NTC, IL and on the USS Tarawa CV40. Gene met Joan A. Braman from North Adams, MA at a Morse's Barn Dance and later got married on October 17, 1959 at the Burrington Hill Ski Resort in Whitingham, VT. He has resided in Readsboro, Jacksonville, and Vernon, VT. Gene had worked for the North River Dairy, New England Power Co., Sprague Electric, Morse & Burnett, Albee Mill, American Optical, Cerso-simo Lumber, and Dompier Electric. He was also a Past Master of Unity #89, F & AM, of Jacksonville, VT and the Elks Lodge #1499 of Brattleboro, VT. He is survived by his wife, Joan B. Morse of Vernon, VT, a daughter, Linda J. Millard (Matthew) of Jamaica, VT, a sister, Roberta M. Kellogg of White River Jct, VT. Three grandchildren, Michael Evans of Dummerston, VT; Elizabeth Gallup of Ballston Spa, NY; and Jonathan (Samantha) Gallup of Keene, NH and one great granddaughter, Jana Rae Gallup; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Friday, September 23rd at the Sadawga Cemetery in Whitingham, VT at 2 pm, Rev. Brigham officiating. A reception will follow at the Whitingham Community Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Whitingham Ladies Benevolent Society c/o Covey Allen & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215 Wilmington, VT 05363. The family has entrusted services to the care of Covey Allen & Shea Funeral Home, Wilmington, VT.
