Eunice Jordan Hill

1912 - 2013 PAWLET Eunice Jordan Hill, 101, of Pawlet, passed into God's everlasting arms on Dec. 31, 2013, at Indian River Nursing & Rehab Facility in Granville, N.Y., after a lengthy period of declining health. She was born on Dec. 27, 1912, the daughter of William and Myrtle (Shaw) Dennison in Rupert. Eunice was survived by her son, William Jordan and his wife Charlotte, of Pawlet; a daughter, Mary Kinney Williams and her husband, Gene, of Springfield, and son-in-law, Lindsay Townsend of Fairfax. Also, surviving are five grandsons, David Jordan of Concord, N.H., Gary Kinney and Peter Kinney of Saxtons River, Thomas Townsend of Fairfax, and Mark Townsend of Georgia, Vt., and four granddaughters, Cynthia Jordan of East Lansing, Mich., Christine Juarez of San Francisco, Calif., Lynn Mayo of Barre, and Diane Comstock of Saxtons River. Survivors also include a step-granddaughter, Virginia McLaren and step-grandson, Eugene Spiezo, both of Greenwich, N.Y. Her family includes 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, William P. Jordan in 1937. She remarried in 1958 to Edwin J. Hill who died in 1980. Her daughter, Wilma Jordan Townsend died in 1969. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Carroll Kinney in 2008; daughter-in-law, Marcheta Townsend in 2012; stepdaughter, Virginia Spiezio in 2010; sisters, Ruth Watrous and Harriet Moore; brothers, Robert, Henry and Harvey Dennison; half-brother, Lewis Dennison, and sister-in-law, Myrtle Jordan Higgins. Eunice was a longtime member of Pawlet Community Church where she had served on the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee and was Secretary of Cheerful Workers of the church. She was a member of the Mettowee Valley Grange for over 65 years. She served on the Pawlet School Board for 12 years. She worked as the cook at the West Pawlet School for several years and moved on to the cook at Catherine Capers summer camp in Wells for many years. She later worked in the office of C H Nelson Agency for several years and not retiring until 1997 at the age of 84. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Pawlet Community Church on Sunday, Jan. 5. 2014, at Noon with calling hours starting at 11 when family can greet friends. Burial will take place in the spring at Mountainview Cemetery in West Pawlet. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pawlet Community Church, POB 116, Pawlet, VT 05761.
