Eva L. Harris

1920 - 2015 BRATTLEBORO Eva L. Harris, 94, formerly of Thomas Street and longtime resident of Brattleboro died early Wednesday morning, March 18, at Pine Heights Nursing Home where she had been a resident since October 2013. Mrs. Harris was born in Halifax on September 3, 1920, the daughter of Elbert and Clara (Worden) Lynde. She was raised and educated in Guilford graduating from Brattle-boro High School with the Class of 1938. She had worked as a receptionist for Dr. Rene LaPlante for ten years and previously had been employed for many years at the former American Optical Company in Brattleboro. She also served on the Brattleboro Police Department joining the PD in the 1950's. Mrs. Harris was a former member of All Souls Church in Brattleboro. A devoted homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, baking pies and cakes, and gardening. She was the wife of Merrill Harris who she married in West Brattleboro in 1940. Her husband of 65 years predeceased her in December 2005. Survivors include one son, David Harris and wife, Valarie, of Brattleboro; one brother, Kenneth Lynde of Guilford; three grandchildren, Sarah and Shane Harris, and Melanie Cooper; three great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Alex, and Brady; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was predeceased by one son, Donald Harris; three brothers; and four sisters. Graveside committal services in West Guilford Cemetery will take place in the springtime for the immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Harris's name may be made to Rescue Inc. P.O. Box 593, Brattleboro, VT 05302.
