Frances Chessington Obituary

Frances C. Chessington 1917 - 2008 BRATTLEBORO Frances C. Chessington, who celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends last December, passed away peacefully at her home in Oviedo, Fla., on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008. Both her daughters, Mae Peterson, also of Oviedo, and Peggy Leo of Brattleboro, were there. Frances was born on Dec. 8, 1917, in San Bernadino, Calif., to Clarence and Ferna Mae Stone. Frances was the widow of James B. Chessington, Colonel, USAF, Retired, with whom she traveled the world and raised her family, making homes in diverse places including California, Arizona, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Maryland, Greenland, South Carolina, Illinois and Japan, finally settling back in Keystone Heights, Fla., where she lived from 1965 until 2002, when she and Mae moved to Oviedo together. As the always-loved, practical and stoic matriarch of an ever-increasing web of descendants, she leaves four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a long lifetime's worth of dear friends. She also leaves one younger sister, Margaret Hansen of Omaha, Neb. We will all miss her. She was predeceased by her older sister, Ruth Hubbard, and her two youngest sisters, Laura Pike and Fae Greek. FUNERAL NOTICE: Donations may be made in her memory to VITAS Hospice of Orlando, Fla. A memorial service will be announced later.
