1931 - 2016 DUMMERSTON- Glenna Bowyer Annis, 85, of East West Road in Dummerston died peacefully Saturday evening, August 6, 2016 in the comfort of her home with her family at her side following a period of declining health. Glenna was born in Simcoe, Ontario on May 26, 1931 the daughter of Rex and Ethel (Butler) Bowyer. She was raised and educated in Simcoe and was a graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing where she received her RN degree. She moved to Brattleboro in 1954 with her husband, planning to stay for a year. She and Don, instead, chose to raise their family in Southern Vermont. Glenna had been employed at the Brattleboro Retreat from 1969 until her retirement in the late 1990's. Previously she worked in the Emergency Department at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and prior to her position at BMH was a nurse for the late Dr. John Houpis, on Park Place. Glenna was a longtime member of Centre Congregational Church and was a past member of the church choir. Of her pastimes and interests, she enjoyed her gardens, travel, playing Bridge, bird watching and her many pets. Her life centered around her family and friends. She especially enjoyed time shared with her grandchildren. She was extremely proud of being a Canadian. On June 1, 1954 in Hamilton, Ontario, she was married to Donald L. Annis who predeceased her in 2001. Survivors include her three sons, Glenn and his wife Charlotte, Grant and his companion Cindy Darcy, all of Dummerston, and Eric and his wife Sharon of Brattleboro, four grandchildren, Kathryn, Libby, Maggie and Sarah. Additionally she leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Centre Congregational Church with Rev. Bert Marshall, Interim Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Dummerston Center Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 8 P.M.
