Harold A. Manley

1911 - 2014 BRATTLEBORO Harold A. Manley, 102, of Clark Avenue, died peacefully Monday morning, July 14, 2014, at Vernon Green Nursing Home. Mr. Manley was born in Derby, Conn., on Dec. 5, 1911, the son of Frank and Bertha (Munger) Manley. He was raised and educated in Enosburg, attending school in a one room schoolhouse. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in the European Theater of Operation during World War II and participated in the D-Day Invasion. While serving in Europe, he met his future wife in Paris, Claude Creach. The couple were married in Porcheville, France on April 30, 1946. A resident of Brattleboro since 1947, Mr. Manley worked as a self-employed woodworker and cabinet maker. Previously, he had been employed at the former Melsur Corp. and in his earlier years worked at the former C.F. Church Manufacturing. Of his leisure time activities he enjoyed hunting, fishing, sugaring every spring and working in his vegetable garden. He also like to pick blackberries and Blueberries. A devoted family man and hard worker, he also cherished time spent with his family. Besides his faithful and loving wife of 68 years, he leaves one son, Paul Manley of Rocky Hill, Conn.; two daughters, Lillian Manley and Judy Manley, both of Brattleboro; two grandchildren, Elaine Sullivan and Eric Manley; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Alyssa Sullivan, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Elmer, George and Cecil, and four sisters, Vivian, Edna, Gladys and Lillian. FUNERAL NOTICE: In accordance with Mr. Manley's final wishes, graveside committal services in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery will be private for the family only. There are no calling hours at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Manley's name may be made to Windham County Humane Society, P.O. Box 397, Brattleboro, VT 05302 or Vernon Green Nursing Home Activities Fund, 61 Greenway Drive, Vernon, VT 05354.
