1928 - 2016 EAST JAMAICA Herman Frederick "Ham" Wondroski, 87 of Old Route 8 in East Jamaica passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, April 24, 2016 at Pine Heights Nursing Home. Herman was born in Bristol, CT on October 28, 1928 the son of Edward and Alma (Gertz) Wondrofski. He was raised in Bristol where he attended public schools graduating from Bristol High School. He proudly served his nation in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged from active service on May 28, 1952. He had been employed for many years for New Departure/ Division of General Motors in CT. and later moved to Jamaica over 40 years ago with his companions, Waldemar and Dorothy Konopas. From 1978 to 1992 he drove school bus in Jamaica becoming well known and loved by the many students he transported over the years. Herman loved the outdoors and enjoyed farming, vegetable gardening and hunting with his brother and friends. Survivors include his niece, Donna Bates Gaudio of Wolcott, CT, his nephew, Kenneth Norman Bates of Cocoa Beach, FL and his good friend and neighbor, Diane Allen. He was predeceased by his sister, Martha Wondrofski Bates and his brother, Arthur Edward Wondrofski. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside committal services with full military honors will be conducted Thursday at 12:00 Noon in East Jamaica Cemetery on Route 30 with Pastor David LeBlanc of the Calvary Chapel in West Townshend officiating. Memorial contributions in Herman's name may be made to Jamaica/Wardsboro Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 179, Jamaica, VT 05343. Herman's family wish to express their heartfelt appreciation to Diane Allen, Dr. Robert Backus, the staff of the VT/NH Visiting Nurses Association, Grace Cottage Hospital, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and Pine Heights Nursing Home.
