James Larsen Obituary

James L. Larsen 1922 - 2012 BELLOWS FALLS, VT James Louis Larsen, 90, of Earle Street died Sunday, April 8th at Springfield Hospital. Mr. Larsen was born in New Bedford, MA on Feb. 12, 1922, son of Louis and Clara (Meuse) Larsen. He attended schools in Walpole, MA and worked as a master electrician and troubleshooter for many companies in the United States and overseas. He retired in 1981 from Idlenot Dairy in Springfield, VT. He also served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Crevalle. Mr. Larsen was a member of the Saxtons River Volunteer Fire Department, the Odd Fellows, served as assistant Boy Scout Troop Leader in Saxtons River, and was a hunter safety instructor. He was also a member of the American Legion, the VT WWII Submarine Veterans, and a member of the US Submarine Veterans. He was the oldest Vermont submarine veteran. On May 1, 1943, Mr. Larsen married Margaret Metcalf, who survives. Also surviving are his children, James "Skip" Larsen, Robert Larsen and companion Terry Tatro, Diane Patterson and companion Maxwell Frazer, and Pamela Kissell and companion Richard Nebbett, all of Bellows Falls, Debra Whitcomb and companion Gary Rorison of El Paso, TX, Ronn and Sandra Larsen, Scott and Colleen Larsen of Kallispell, MT; his sister, Marilyn Greeno of Massachusetts; and brother Richard Larsen of Virginia; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Larsen was predeceased by his parents, his son Alan, and his daughter, Cheryl Riendeau. FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be a funeral service at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 29th, at FENTON & HENNESSEY FUNERAL HOME in Bellows Falls, VT. The burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Saxtons River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rockingham Free Public Library, Westminster Street, Bellows Falls, VT 05101.

It is always with sadness that we have lost another American hero. Mr. Larsen was truely a hero, serving in the USN aboard the "S" class submarine in time of war. Truely, a member of Americas greatest generation. It will be a honor to stand in his honor.
