She was born at her grandmother's farm in Sutton, N.H. on Oct. 22, 1918, the daughter of the late Earl and Hazel (Colby) Barnard.

Jean lived her early years in Brattleboro, Chester and Claremont, N.H. She moved back to Brattleboro during her freshman year, graduating from Brattleboro High School, Class of 1936. She then worked at N.E. Telephone Company in Brattleboro as a phone operator for 33 years before her retirement in 1980.

She married Laurence E. Anderson Sr. on Oct. 23, 1938 and together they celebrated 65 years of marriage until his death in 2004. In 1947 they spent two years living in Marlow, N.H., then to Guilford and Brattleboro, and finally in 1967, they made Dummerston their permanent home.

Jean spent time traveling with her family and friends across the country and throughout Canada on motorcycles. Her entire life she loved to take rides on the back roads of Vermont and New Hampshire. Up until her death she still wanted and was able to go for those rides and have lunch with her drivers, and son. Jean loved attending parties and entertaining family and friends, she spent summers riding motorcycles, and spending time on their boat "Pucker Power" on the Connecticut River. She spent winters, snowmobiling the country side of Vermont and New Hampshire. She was an avid reader and animal and bird lover, feeding hundreds of birds and squirrels year round. She enjoyed making cross stitch and needlepoint pictures for friends and family members, and never missed the weekly Lawrence Welk Show on Saturday nights. Jean's kindness, generosity and humor will be missed by all that knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Laurence E. Anderson, Sr.; a sister, Ellen Carpenter; a brother, Earl Barnard, and a daughter-in- law, Patti Anderson.

She is survived by a son, Laurence E. Anderson Jr. and his wife Charlene of Brattleboro; a daughter, Sally Peltz and her husband David of Niles, Mich.; a sister, Erleine Putnam of Eastham, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Martha Barnard of Brattleboro; four grandchildren, Pamela Todd and her husband Noel of Ill., Debra Sprecher and her husband Steve of Pennsylvania, Mark Anderson and his wife Denise and Kirstin Parro and her husband Chris, all of Vermont; five great-grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew, Connor, Emma and Josh; many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as her caretakers and devoted neighbors, Beth, Joe and Cooper.
