Joan Larson

1935 - 2016 LONDONDERRY, VT Joan B Larson, 80, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. While her Mom was visiting her Aunt Alice, Joan was born in Williamstown, MA on July 8, 1935. Joan was the daughter of Roy and Maude (McGinn) Mathews. Joan graduated from Leland & Gray Seminary in 1954 and spent many years cleaning for various local residents. She worked for Harriet and Abner Sisson of Weston for some 30 years. Her last cleaning job was for Annie and Noble Fujii; her cleaning skills at age 77 were far superior to any other much younger. Her first marriage was for Jack Moore in April 1958. He worked construction so they traveled with their 1958 mobile home to RI, CT and ME. On June 21, 1987 she married Robert Larson; the true love of her life. She often told it was the happiest 26 years of her life. Joan's extensive network of family and friends is so vast it would require a zip code of its own. She was a high spirited soul and without any effort made people feel special and welcome when they visited her in her 1958 mobile home where she resided until the end of her life. She was predeceased by parents, her husband, Robert and her brother, Lawrence "Lonnie" Mathews. She is survived by her sister, Jean Williams (Pat), her brother, Stephen Mathews (Joyce) both of Londonderry; a sister-in-law, Brenda Mathews of Westminster, VT., eight nieces and nephews, Michael Charlton, Priscilla Mathews, Jeffrey Charlton, Deborah Carleton; Shelley Williams, Candace Sawyer, Stephanie Mathews, Stephen Mathews II; and 13 great-nieces and nephews; four great-great-nieces and nephews, several cousins, her special Aunt Evelyn and her beloved Yorkie, Coco. SERVICES: A Celebration of Joan's life will be held at Jake's Marketplace Cafe in Londonderry on Feb. 6, 2016 at 1p.m. There will be no calling hours. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be sent to Springfield Humane Society or other local charity or choice.
