Joseph Leland Johnston

1944 - 2015 BRATTLEBORO Joseph Leland Johnston passed away suddenly in Walla Walla, Washington on April 11, 2015 Joe was born October 1, 1944 in Brattleboro, VT. He was 70 years old. He grew up in the Brattleboro area and lived in West Chesterfield and Hinsdale, NH, Dummerston VT and then moved west to Milton-Freewater, OR and the Walla Walla, Washington area. Joe attended Hinsdale high school and graduated in 1964. He then joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After serving our country, Joe returned to the Brattleboro area and worked as a cement finisher with his father. Later he became an independent painting contractor and did this until sidelined by heart related health issues. He had a dry sense of humor and could break the ice at any function he attended. Joe loved classic and antique automobiles and owned several over the years. He was a warm and giving person who would help others. Joe was a big brother to many nieces nephews and cousins. He is survived by a sister, Gail Clodius of Walla Walla and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Marsha (Gale) Johnston, father, Leland and sister, Mary Chapman. SERVICES: A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Rocky Gale on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the West Townshend Seventh-day Adventist Church. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to send a donation may send them in Joe's name to your local Humane Society.
