1946 - 2015 BRATTLEBORO Kathleen Ann Marietta Gatz, ("Kay" to her loved ones) passed away peacefully Sunday morning, May 31, 2015 at her home surrounded by family and friends. Born in Joliet, Ill. in 1946 she was a resident of Lockport, Ill. for many years. Kay taught English at Walsh Junior High School where she met and married her husband, Gerry Gatz. After their marriage they moved to New England where Kay taught High School English at the Winnisquam High School in Tilton, NH and Ashland High School in Ashland, NH. She finally settled in Brattleboro in 1982 with her husband and daughter, Katharine. Kay was an astrologer who created insightful readings for her friends and family as well as members of the community who requested them.She was also an avid reader and writer. Kay'smost recent position was as the deli cashier at the Brattleboro Food Coop.She worked there for more than 10 years and loved being a part of the Co-op community. After retirement, Kay relished time spent with her granddaughters, Harper and Paisley and her favorite place to be was on the deck of her Brattleboro home enjoying her gardens and eating sour cherries from her favorite tree. Kay is preceded in death by her parents, James Marietta and Rose Pesavento Marietta. Kay is survived by her husband, Gerry Gatz; her daughter, Katharine Rancourt; granddaughters, Harper Marietta and Paisley Bryce Rancourt, and son-in-law, William Rancourt, all of Lebanon, N.H. She is also survived by her sister, Sandra Young of Lockport, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: A celebration of Kay's life will be held at her home at 7 School Street in Brattleboro on Saturday June 20, 2015from Noon till 5 p.m. It will be an open house for those who wish to pay respects to the family. A time will be set aside around 2 p.m. for guests to offer remembrances of Kay's life. Parking is limited, please use the Green Street School parking lot. Kay's family would like to thank the superb staff at the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care and the people from the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Organization who made her last days comfortable. In lieu of flowers, a donation if you choose, can be made to one of Kay's favorite organizations, either "Best Friends," an animal rescue organization (5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah 84741) or "Home at Last," an organization that provides housing to homeless veterans (P.O. Box 6104, Brattleboro, VT 05302).
