Kevin R. Brown

1954 - 2015 BRATTLEBORO Kevin R. Brown, 61, of South Main Street, a lifelong resident of town died late Sunday night, April 19, at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend following a lengthy illness. Kevin was born in Brattleboro on April 12, 1954, the son of Robert and Beryl (Berry) Brown. He attended Brattle-boro public schools and was a graduate of Brattle-boro Union High School, Class of 1972. He had been employed in the residential heating business as a service manager for Crystal Ice & Fuel Company, and for Barrows Oil Company, later establishing his own heating contracting business which he operated in Brattleboro. He retired early due to the progression of his illness. In his earlier years, he owned and operated his own motorcycle restoration business specializing in classic British motorcycles. His shop was located in Guilford and he attracted clients from around the world. Kevin considered himself a true Vermonter. He enjoyed genealogy and traced his family ancestry back to the 1600's. He loved history, and was a descendant of a Civil War Union soldier. He visited many battle-grounds that included Gettysburg, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Virginia's Peninsula Campaign sites. Vermont was his true home and he enjoyed time spent at his camp located in the Northeast Kingdom. He enjoyed music, playing the guitar, was an avid Beatles fan, and held a wealth of knowledge regarding the group. One of his highlights was attending a Ringo Starr concert in Manchester, Vermont. Of his other leisure time activities he enjoyed classic cars notably the Chevrolet Corvair Convertible of which he restored his own 1966 model. Kevin loved animals and throughout the years took in many strays and sickly dogs and cats which he nursed back to health to become his beloved pets. Kevin lived his life by the golden rule, was hardworking, honest, and devoted to his family and close friends. On July 21, 1985, in West Burke, Vt. he was married to Catherine Dompier. Besides his faithful and loving wife of 29 years, he leaves a step-son, David Woods and his wife, Molly, and their daughter, Grace Catherine, of Newport News, Va.; a sister, Deborah Berry of Brattleboro; a niece, Ashley Dompier of Walnut, Calif.; and two nephews, Eric and Kyle Crawford. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a niece, Kimberly Crawford.
