Laura L. Dutton Howe Obituary
Townshend - Laura Louise Dutton Howe, b. Aug. 22, 1927 in West Windham, VT the youngest child of Clara (Christiansen) & George L. Dutton, d. peacefully at Valley Cares in Townshend, Jul. 9, 2017.

She attended schools in So. Windham and Chester; married James W. Howe of East Jamaica (1942); resided in E. Jamaica throughout her adult life, traveling widely throughout the United States and Eastern Canada; made Valley Cares Ass't Living her home beginning in Aug., 2012.

Laura touched the lives of many as: an elected official of the Town of Jamaica for over 30 years, (Town Auditor, Union School Director, Lister, Justice of the Peace), receiving a VT Public Service Award (2006); the Windham District's VT REA Rep. for 16 years; member and Past President of the West River Valley Am'n Legion and the Grace Cottage Hospital Auxiliaries, the Jamaica Benefit Society and following retirement, NARFE, Chap. #659; member and Past Worthy Matron of the Mt. Lebanon Chap. 89 OES; active member of the Jamaica Community Church.

She worked first part-time (book-keeper/clerk, Gleason's Store in E. Jamaica, housecleaner, picking/grading apples, Dwight Miller Orchards, etc.); then full-time ('52-'67 at Mary Meyer Mgf. Co.; '67- '89 as Rural Mail Carrier, Star Route through Windham, then RR2, W. Brattleboro). She was also a caring mother, an accomplished seamstress, a prodigious quilt and afghan maker and a consummate gardener.

Predeceased by her spouse, siblings and three nephews, Laura is survived by her three children and their spouses: Mary E. Howe-Grant (Peter Ford) of Santa Barbara, CA; James W. Howe, Jr. (Ruth) of Luverne, AL; and Aaron L. Howe (DeeDee Knight) of Price, UT; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; sister-in- law, Eris Howe of W. Townshend, and many nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: A Memorial service will be held at Valley Cares Ass't Living in Townshend.

There will also be a graveside service at the Jamaica Cemetery later in the year. Dates to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in her name to the Jamaica Community Church, the Jamaica Library, Grace Cottage Hospital and/or Valley Cares.
