Brattleboro - Marcia Martel Mears, 78 of Old Guilford Road, a lifelong resident of town was reunited with her late husband Russell following a period of declining health. She passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, February 13, 2017 at Pine Heights Nursing Home.

Marcia was born at home on Old Guilford Road on March 8, 1938 the daughter of Henry and Edmee (Cormier) Martel. She lived in the same house virtually her entire life.

She was raised and educated in Brattleboro attending Saint Michael's Parochial School and was a graduate of Saint Michael's High School, Class of 1956. In June of the same year, at Saint Michael's Church, she was married to Russell Mears. Her faithful and devoted husband of 40 years predeceased her in 1996.

In 1985 Marcia and Russ purchased Emil's Pub in Fort Dummer and following Russ's passing in 1996 she continued to operate the pub with her children until it was sold in 2001.

A devout Catholic, Marcia was a lifelong communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church.

Of her leisure time activities, she enjoyed NASCAR racing, trips to the casinos, visiting New Orleans, music, especially Jimmy Buffet, spending time with her grandchildren and her beloved cats and her dog Bennie.

Survivors include her four children, Deborah Mears, Stephen Mears, Richard Mears and Cindy Mears and a brother Ernest Martel.

Additionally she leaves her eight grandchildren, Andrea and Lauren Carusona, Rebecca, Rikki, Rachael, Hunter, Jacob and Dakota Mears, five step-grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren, and four step great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and several cousins.

She was predeceased by a sister, Irene (Martel) Cembura in 1999.

SERVICES: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. Justin Baker, Pastor, celebrant. Committal Rites and burial in Saint Michael's Cemetery will take place in the springtime.

Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 6 P.M.
