Marlene Gale Clevenger

1933 - 2014 Marlene Rose Gale Clevenger was born June 2, 1933 in Townshend, VT, sixth of seven children of George Howe Gale and Mary Martha Johnson. She grew up in Brattleboro, VT and was graduated from Brattleboro Union High in 1951 and Becker Junior College, Worcester, MA in 1953. She worked as a medical secretary in Boston and in Beverly Hills, CA before marrying Stanley Craig Clevenger in 1957. They had three children and lived variously in Nahant, Marblehead, Stoneham and North Reading, MA, vacationing in a cabin Stan built on Lovejoy Pond in Maine. In 1965 they moved to Portland and then Hillsboro, OR, where Marlene taught astrology, became a real estate broker and acquired a large circle of friends. In 1983 Stan and Marlene purchased Walston Woodcraft and moved to Spofford, NH. They spent the next 14 years manufacturing whirligigs and enjoying time with her extended family. After Stan died in 1997 Marlene moved back to Hillsboro to be nearer her children, filling her time with travel, blackjack, Red Sox games, grandchildren, French classes and fun with old friends and new. Marlene died age 81 on August 19, 2014 after a sudden illness and was interred in Taft Cemetery, West Townshend, VT. She is survived by children, Leslie (Dale) Beachwood of Beaverton, OR, Stephen (Christel) Clevenger of Livermore, CA, and Bruce (Kami) Clevenger of Aloha, OR; six grandchildren: Jackson, Hannah and Carolina Beachwood, Kaitlyn Clevenger, and Britnie and Bryon Clevenger; and one great-grandchild, Bailey Miles.
