BRATTLEBORO Mary M. Smith, 82 of Melrose Street, a lifelong resident of the area died Thursday afternoon, January 14, 2016 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health. Mrs. Smith was born in Brattleboro on July 13, 1933, the daughter of Dominic and Rose (Madia) Mannarino. She was raised and educated in Hinsdale where she attended Hinsdale High School. With her husband she owned and operated the former Ed's Market & Deli located on lower South Main Street. She also had worked at the former AMP Keyboards, former Book-Press, Holstein-Friesian Association of America and for R.S. Roberts, Inc. all of Brattleboro. Mrs. Smith was a longtime communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church. She was known for her spirit of friendship and generosity. Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed knitting, gardening and time shared with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also an avid reader. For many years she practiced Reiki and was a certified master in the art. On September 10, 1955 at Saint Joseph's Church in Hinsdale she was married to Edward O. Smith. Her faithful and devoted husband of 52 years predeceased her on February 20, 2008. Survivors include three sons, Hal Smith and his wife, Cindy of Atlanta, GA, Nick Smith and wife, Carol of Swanzey, N.H. and Ed Smith and wife, Kathy of Hinsdale, N.H., seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Additionally she leaves many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Steven, who died in infancy and a sister, Florence Derosia. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11a.m. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. James Dodson, pastor, celebrant. Burial will take place in the springtime. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Smith's name may be made to Rescue Inc., P.O.
