NEWFANE Maxine Elaine Brooks passed away at the age of 84 on April 18, 2015. "Gram" Brooks was known as a doting grandmother to her grandchildren who often spent time with her, completing projects and sharing special times at the family lake cottage. She had a love for gardening and birdwatching and was well known for her expertise in painting and wallpapering well into her 80's. Her greatest commitments were to family and church. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Brooks; and her brothers, Bernard Shine, Sr., and Stephan Shine. She leaves behind a brother, Richard Shine of California; a son, Scott Brooks of Newfane; a daughter, Toni Skater and her husband, Patrick, of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandsons, Rob Harris and his wife, Sheila, of Jamaica, Farren Harris-Survevre of Wasilla, Alaska, Shannon Doucet of Stratton, and Robert Brooks of Townshend; and two granddaughters, Samantha and Brianna Brooks, both of Newfane. She also leaves five great-granddaughters, Gabreille Harris, Kaedence Harris, Izabella Harris, Carlyn Harris, and Makeena Harris; and one great-grandson, Tyler Shippee. On Saturday, April 25, 2015, the family will have a private burial. A memorial service and reception for friends and family will follow at 11 a.m. at the Newfane Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Brooks' name may be made to the Newfane Congregational Church, P.O. Box 27, Newfane, VT 05345.
