Myrtle B. Johnson Obituary
Myrtle Johnson died on June 23, 2016. At home with her family be her side. She was born in Windsor VT on April 14, 1937 and grew up on a dairy farm in Hartland VT. Myrtle graduated from Windsor High School in 1955. She met Colan Johnson on a hayride. They were married March 11, 1956. At the time of his death in October, 2014 they had been married for 58 years. After living in Brookfield and Ludlow VT and Swansey. Myrtle and Colan settled in Putney, VT. Together they raised five children, worked in the woods, cared for livestock and going to many competitions with their teams of draft horses. In addition to her work at home and on their small farm Myrtle worked at Putney Paper Mills for a number of years and she drove a school bus. She enjoyed counted cross stitch and other embroidery work as well as time with her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Jessie and Maurice Eaton, and her only brother, Chester Eaton, son Rodney Johnson. Myrtle lived the last years of her life with her son Gordon and his wife Mary of Putney, VT. She is also survived by one daughter, Wanita Theriault and her husband, Andy of Milan, NH, and sons Elberton Johnson of Groton NH, Sy Johnson and his wife, Deborah of Westminster, VT and daughter in law Deborah Johnson of Northfield MA. She loved her 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Bayada Hospice, 1222 Putney Rd., Brattleboro VT 05301 Memorial service: For Colan & Myrtle Johnson will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Putney, VT. on July 2, 2016 at 11am.
