Paul J. Aumand Obituary
Paul J. Aumand formerly of North Walpole, NH passed peacefully at his home Friday December 9, 2016. Paul was born in Bellows Falls, VT on June 17, 1928, the son of Ernest and Mary (Ratchford) Aumand.

He attended schools in North Walpole, was a 1946 graduate of Bellows Falls High School, and graduated from Dean Academy and Saint Michael's College. He receieved his Masters degree in Engineering. Paul was an all American football and basketball player. He was self-employed as a builder as Paul J. Aumand Construction and also worked for Aubuchon Hardware and kept busy for many years after retiring. Paul was a member of American Pierce-Lawton Post 37, B.P.O.E. 1619, and the Polish American Club all in Bellows Falls.

During the entire time of his accomplishments, his sense of humor seemed to not only sustain him but also encourage him. He became the master of the elaborate practical joker in town. Suffice it to say that the stories of these pranks are still the stuff of legend in all of the clubs that Paul belonged to in our locale.

Paul Aumand did more for the kids of North Walpole than anyone ever did. From the time he was a young husband and father, he gave the community his time, talent and treasure as if it were perfectly natural to do so. A great athlete himself, he endeavored to give everyone the best facilities, opportunities and encouragement to enjoy all forms of outdoor activities. To mention a few, the skating rink behind the fire station, making sure the school field was mowed at the far end of Nim's field all summer, later building dugouts and installing real bases to the crowning accomplishment of designing and constructing a full outdoor basketball court, eventually with lights right next to his home.

His insistence that children of all ages play and have fun was probably the most inspiring thing he did. Paul continued later on with his monetary support and herculean effort to make the American Pierce Lawton Post 37 baseball program what it is today.

In 1949 he married Eleanor L. Mackee who predeceased him in 1996.

Surviving are his children, Paul Jr. (Hooker) and wife Debi of Bellows Falls, VT, Michael and wife Ann of Massena, NY, Linda Lake and Dave Hallock of Bellows Falls, VT, Susan Aumand of North Walpole, NH, Patrick Sr. and wife Mary of North Walpole, NH, William (Bill) and wife Lori of Westmoreland, NH, Jon (Boomer) and wife Tracy of Walpole, NH, Kim Aumand and Todd Novak of Westminster, VT; his brothers, Ernest Jr. (Turk) and wife Sophie of North Walpole, NH, Raymond and wife Ellen of Florida; 17 grandchildren (predeceased by Patrick Jr.), 22 great grand children, and one great great grandchild; his close friend Howard Dodge and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his companion Donna Kilian.
