Priscilla Sherwood Obituary
Priscilla J. Sherwood

1929 - 2015 PETERBOROUGH Priscilla J. Sherwood, 85, of Peterborough, formerly of Brattleboro, died Thursday, April 9. She was born June 14, 1929 to Edward and Elinor (White) Janeway in Oyster Bay, Long Island. Her parents moved to Vermont in 1945. Priscilla found herself very much at home in Vermont. After graduating Whee-lock College, Priscilla married Thomas K. Sherwood III in 1951. Three daughters were born and the family moved to Manchester, Mass., where Priscilla established herself as a force in the community. She cared nothing for climbing the social ladder, but was known for walking everywhere, getting to know everyone, and impulsively speaking her mind. After divorce in 1974, Priscilla moved to Brattleboro. She loved the diverse community. The Farmers' Market, All Souls Church, Brattleboro Music Chorus, Food Coop, and Hospital Coffee Shop provided fast friends and outlets for her energy. Later she lived in Burlington, Vt. and Brookline, Mass., where she returned to Wheelock College to study Family Systems Therapy. Trips to Russia with the chorus, "Sharing a New Song," were hugely rewarding. In her mid-seventies, Priscilla sustained two brain injuries, a year apart. While working to regain strength, she moved to RiverMead, a continuing care community in Peterborough, N.H. RiverMead provided stimulation, respect, flexible housing, and loving care. Priscilla described herself as "something along the lines of charming and alarming." Her impish eyebrows will be missed! She delighted in her grandchildren, always keen to hear about their adventures and misadventures, and always supportive of their journeys. Survivors include sib-lings, Elsie Apthorp, Ed Janeway Jr., and Harold Janeway; daughters and their spouses, Jennifer and Robert Turner, Frannie Sherwood and David Mink, Brooky Sherwood and David Babbitt; grandchildren, Emily and Ben Turner, Nate, Serena, and Timmy Jenkins, and Rose, Pete, and Lou Terwilliger. Priscilla's parents, Ed and Elinor Janeway; and siblings, Betsy and Ted Janeway predeceased her; as did her ex-husband, Tom Sherwood III. Plans for celebrating Priscilla's life will be announced soon. Donations in her memory may be made to Brattleboro Area Hospice at 191 Canal St., Brattleboro, VT 05301, Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center at 1221 Bonnyvale Rd., Brattleboro VT 05301, or the Vermont Community Loan Fund at 15 State St., Montpelier VT 05602.
