THE VILLAGES, Fla. - Raymond Ernest Butler, 84, formerly of Hinsdale, N.H. and a resident of Carvello Drive in the Villages, passed away Sunday evening, December 18, 2016, at The Villages Hospice House.

Mr. Butler was born in Hinsdale on Nov. 27, 1932, the son of Ernest and Beatrice (LeCuyer) Butler. He attended school in Hinsdale and graduated in the Class of 1951.

Mr. Butler served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wadleigh, DD689, Destroyer during the Korean War.

He was a resident of Hinsdale most of his life and retired to Florida with his wife, Dolores (Danna) Butler in 1999, where they lived the remainder of their lives. He was a General Contractor for 40 years building many homes, ski lodges, apartment buildings, motels and his last project was a new facility for a local credit union.

He belonged to the Elks, VFW and American Legion. He was a Charter member of the Hinsdale Lions Club as well as serving as Vice President and President for two years. For the club, Mr. Butler initiated and chaired Halloween dances for teenagers and parade for the younger generation. He was a member of the Lions Club for 12 years.

Mr. Butler enjoyed attending his Naval Reunions since 1985 and never missed a year until the passing of his wife in 2006. He attended his last Naval Reunion in 2008.

On May 7, 1955, at St. Bernadine's Catholic Church in Baltimore, Maryland, he was married to Dolores (Danna) Butler who predeceased him on March 1, 2006. They were married for 50 years.

He leaves behind two sons, Raymond E. Butler Jr. of Lisbon, NY and John M. Butler of Fredericksburg, VA and two daughters, Jeannette H. Merton of Hinsdale, NH and Joan B. Austin of Somersworth, NH. He has 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 19 nieces and nephews. Mr. Butler has 4 surviving siblings, Edith Brown of Laconia, NH, Beatrice Mitchell of Hinsdale, NH, Marguerite Choquette of Massachusetts and Olin Butler of Brattleboro, VT. He was predeceased by his sister Ethel Doyle and brother, Edwin Butler.

Mr. Butler enjoyed spending time with his many friends in The Villages, especially at the Spanish Springs town square.

SERVICES: A Catholic Prayer Service will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Atamaniuk Funeral Home, 40 Terrace St., Brattleboro, Vt.

Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hinsdale will take place in the springtime, when the cemetery reopens.

Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
