CHESTERFIELD, NH Raymond W. Harris died peacefully at his Chesterfield home on January 20, 2017 at age 95. A native of Williamsville, VT, he was the son of Walter and Ada (Jones) Harris. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lena (Hagadorn) Harris, daughters, Donna and Sherry, three grandchildren and seven great-grand-children. He was predeceased by his son, Randy. After graduating from Brattleboro High School in 1940, Ray enlisted in the VT National Guard's 172nd Regiment of the 43rd Infantry Division. During the war, Ray spent nearly three years in the South Pacific Theatre, serving as a scout and reconnaissance platoon commander, taking part in the New Guinea, Northern Solomon Islands and Luzon (Philippines) campaigns. Subsequent to the service, Ray worked for over 35 years at the American Optical Company in Brattleboro. Ray was an active member of the American Legion Post 86 in Chesterfield where he served as Chaplin for many years. He was an accomplished woodsman, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a lifelong snowmobiling enthusiast.
