Plattsburgh, N.Y. - Rena Alice Shippee, 84 formerly of Ft Bridgman Road in Vernon died Tuesday evening, December 13, 2016 at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh following a period of declining health.

Mrs. Shippee was born in Brattleboro on May 8, 1932 the daughter of Stillman and Laura (Matava) Graves. She was raised and educated in Brattleboro and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School, Class of 1951.

She had been employed as a switchboard operator at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital where she retired from following 25 faithful and dedicated years at BMH. Previously she worked as a payroll clerk at the former H. Margolin Pocketbook Shop in Brattleboro.

Mrs. Shippee was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brattleboro Aerie #2445. While residing in the Brattleboro area she attended West Brattleboro Baptist Church.

Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed gardening and loved to grow roses her favorite flower, socializing with her many friends at both the Brattleboro and Vernon Senior Centers and time shared with her family especially her grandchildren. She was also an avid movie buff.

On April 30, 1961 in Brattleboro she was married to Thurman Shippee who predeceased her on April 17, 1999.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Reid of Shelburne Falls, Mass and Lisa Shippee of Brattleboro, six sons, David Graves of Lerona, WV, Thurman Shippee of Dummerston, Todd Shippee of Peru, NY, Dean Shippee of Vernon, Mark Shippee of Mounltonboro, NH and Scott Shippee of Derry, NH.

Additionally she leaves several half-brothers and half- sisters, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Dana Shippee and a twin brother David Matava.

SERVICES: A memorial service in celebration of her life will be conducted on Saturday, January 21 at 11:00 A.M. at Atamaniuk Funeral Home. Calling hours will be Friday afternoon from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M.
