1927 - 2015 VERNON Richmond A. "Dick" Tripp, 87, of Greenway Drive, a former resident of West Road and Edward Heights in Brattleboro died Saturday night, July 11, 2015 at Vernon Green Nursing Home. Mr. Tripp was born in Bellows Falls on July 21, 1927, the son of Alfred Richmond and Ruth (Sparks) Tripp. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School, Class of 1945. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy where he was honorably discharged from active service at the rank of Fireman, Second Class. Upon returning home he went to work for the town of Brattleboro Dept. of Public Works from 1946 to 1952 and later for Central Vermont Public Service from 1952 until his retirement as superintendent with the company in 1990, following over 37 years of faithful service with C.V.P.S. Mr. Tripp was active in many community activities, serving as a Boy Scout Leader, member of the Academy School PTA, member of Sportsmans Inc., and Brattleboro Town Meeting rep for many years. He received a Vermont Public Service Awards certificate on May 12, 2000 for over 20 years of community service in Brattleboro. He was a member of the former Wantastiquet Lodge #5, IOOF, serving as Noble Grand and District Deputy Grand Master, Oasis Encampment IOOF, serving as Chief Patriarch and District Deputy, and was a member and Past President of the Brattleboro Kiwanis Club. He was a longtime member of First Congregational Church in West Brattleboro where he served as Trustee, Deacon, Investment Committee and a member of the Thursday Night Club. He also held membership in the American Legion, Brattleboro Post #5. Since moving to Vernon, he had been active in the Vernon Seniors and Vernon Historians, Inc. as Museum Chairperson and Trustee. He served as Water Commissioner of the Edgewater Park Water Association for a number of years. On January 23, 1948 in Middlebury, VT he was married to Ruth Burch who survives. Besides his loving and faithful wife of 67 years he leaves one son, Michael Tripp of Vernon, three daughters, Elizabeth Dusablon of Burlington, Catherine Pohle of Port St. Lucie, FL and Christine Miles of Keene. Additionally he is survived by eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In keeping with Mr. Tripp's final wishes, graveside committal services in West Brattleboro cemetery will be private for the immediate family only with the Rev. Philip Nelson of Vernon, officiating.
