1922 - 2015 BROOKLINE Robert E. "Bob" Boyce, 93, formerly of Grassy Brook Road died peacefully Saturday afternoon, June 27, 2015 at Vernon Green Nursing Home. Mr. Boyce was born in Middletown, N.Y. on May 11, 1922 the son of William and Abigail (English) Boyce. He was raised and educated in New Jersey and was a graduate of Upsala College in E. Orange where he received his BA in English in 1942. He went on to attend Rutgers University where he completed his graduate studies. He entered the teaching profession at age 28 and taught high school English for 40 years in the greater Paramus, New Jersey area. Mr. Boyce remained in New Jersey all his life and following his retirement in June of 1992 moved to his beloved Vermont to become a "Country Gentleman." Steadfast in his walk of faith, he was a member of the Green Mountain Chapel in Brattleboro where he served on the Governing Board and as church treasurer for several years and was an active member of Gideon's International, Windham County Camp where he served as president. Of his leisure time activities he enjoyed reading, writing, collecting books and teddy bears, baking cakes and pies and maintaining a large correspondence of nearly 200 people at Christmas time. Mr. Boyce leaves many dear friends, his church family, his extended family at Vernon Green and a loyal following of many of his former students. He was predeceased by one brother, Charles W. Boyce who died over 35 years ago. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Green Mountain Chapel on Western Avenue with Pastor Bill Steele officiating. A reception will follow the services to be held in the church fellowship hall. Committal prayers and burial is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. in the Boyce family lot in Rosemont Memorial Park in Elizabeth, N.J.
