Robert "Bob" Menck, Jr.

1932 - 2015 BRATTLEBORO Robert "Bob" Menck, Jr., 83 of Speno Court, died Tuesday morning, March 3, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Menck was born in Jamaica, N.Y., on January 10, 1932, the son of Robert and Lydia (Fobe) Menck. He was raised and educated in New York and attended Queens (NY) Vocational High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany prior to his honorable discharge from active service. For most of his working career he was employed as a truck driver for Brattleboro Haulage and more recently drove for both Auto Mall and Fairfield Motors. He also worked for many years as a bartender at the former Country Kitchen Restaurant and at the Brattleboro Elks Lodge. Of his civic and fraternal activities, he was a member of Brattleboro Lodge #102, Free & Accepted Masons, the Brattleboro Shrine Club, and B.P.O. Elks, Brattleboro Lodge #1499. Additionally he held membership in the American Legion Brattleboro Post #5 and the V.F.W. Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and time spent with his family and friends. Bob always had time to share a joke or two with his buddies. His friendly greetings made him welcome with all those who knew him. On Oct. 25, 1959 in Kauneonga Lake, N.Y., he was married to Carol Meddaugh who survives. Besides his faithful and devoted wife of 55 years he leaves two sons, Robert Menck, III of Keene, and Eric Menck of Anchorage, Alaska; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, March 14 from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Elks Home on Putney Road. Memorial contributions in Mr. Menck's name may be made to Rescue Inc. P.O.
