1929 - 2016 Robert (Bob) Murdock passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones, Thursday morning September 22, 2016. Bob was born March 30, 1929 to Clara Lois Hicks Murdock & Harry Edgar Murdock of Whitingham VT. He was pre-deceased by his siblings Raymond (Hoot) Murdock, Catherine (Sam) Teft, Forrest (John) Murdock and Harry Murdock. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Hildur Holland Murdock, daughters Melody J. Eccher (Robert), of White River Jct., VT, Melissa J. Matz (Richard) of Canal Winchester OH, Betsey R. Huri of Manchester CT.. Grandchildren: Adam Eccher (Sara), Evan Eccher (Kayla), Patrick Huri (Brittany) Kyle Huri (Kylie) and Grace Huri. Great Grandchildren: Blake Eccher, Berkley Eccher, Zane Eccher and Jenna Huri. Sister-in-law's Bernice Murdock, Shirley Reynolds, Audrey Eilers, Sharron Mirke & Brother-in-law Stewart Reynolds & many Nieces & Nephews. He enjoyed a special relationship with cousin and childhood friend Bud Bemis, along with special visits with Leah Murdock and many other family members over the years. Bob married Hildur Elaine Holland on October 27, 1956. Bob worked & operated Murdock Trucking in his early years and then worked for the Town of Whitingham and retired as Road Commissioner. He was a lifelong resident of Whitingham. Bob had many interests and was very civic minded. He was a member of Whitingham Fire Dept. since the age of 16, retiring as Chief. He was a founding member of the Whitingham rescue, member of the Board of Selectmen, previous member of the Masons, The North River Grange & the 85 Club. Bob was an avid reader and for fun would listen to pod cast of different Southern Vermont Select Board meetings. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be Sunday September 25th, 2pm at the Jacksonville Community Church with a social gathering immediately following. Memorial donations may be made is his name to the Whitingham Fire Department, PO Box 368 Jacksonville VT 05342 or Whitingham Historical Society, PO Box 125, Jacksonville VT 05342.
