Roger Dartt Obituary

Roger Dartt 1940 - 2011 BRATTLEBORO, VT Roger Dartt, 70, formerly of Brattleboro, passed away peacefully on Jan. 9, 2011, at Ohio Hospice in Dayton, Ohio, with his family beside him. Roger was born in Hartford, Conn., on July 23, 1940, and was the son of the late Donald and Doralys Dartt. Roger's passing will unite him in Heaven with his parents and his brother, Paul. Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Monika Horndasch Dart in Dayton, Ohio, and his stepdaughter, Darlene Ewing, and stepson, Forrest Ewing and his wife, Tonia; their five grandchildren, Shane, Forrest Michael, Blaine, David and Tristan. In addition, he leaves his sisters, Donna Cole and husband, CJ, of Hinsdale, N.H., Ruth Blunt and her husband, Al, of Austin, Texas, Kathleen Macie and her husband, Ron, of Vernon, Vt., and Janet Curran and her fiance, Joseph Guliuzza, of Milford, Conn., along with several nieces and nephews. His brother, Paul Dartt, lost his life in Vietnam in 1968. Roger proudly gave his country several years in the service. He spent seven years in the Navy and 14 years in the Army, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. While in Germany for six years, he met and married his wife, Monika. They loved the area and traveled back there several times, as recently as 2007. He worked in and enjoyed various building and carpentry positions and attended machinist school in Dayton, Ohio. He loved traveling, especially to his favorite spot on Mt. Pilatus in Lucerne, Switzerland, and felt it was the most peaceful spot in the world. It is here where Roger requested his ashes be spread. He was an avid reader and tremendously enjoyed photography, gardening, fishing and tapestry work. His tapestry and needlepoint were proudly showcased at his home. FUNERAL NOTICE: Private services will be held in Dayton, Ohio, for his immediate family; and there will be no calling hours. A memorial service to celebrate Roger's life will be held at St. Michael's Church in Brattleboro at a future date for family and friends. Please keep Roger in your prayers.

We willl never forget Roger. He was a God send when Howard was in the hospital over the holidays in 1966 and Howard couldn't move. He brought him a back scrather to reach his feet when they itched. Roger was dealing with his own tragedy. May all of you enjoy all the wonderful memories of Roger. God bless you all.
