Roland L. Davis, Jr.

1929 - 2015 VERNON Roland L. Davis, Jr., 86 of West Hill Road died Monday night, October 19, 2015 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Mr. Davis was born in Tunbridge, VT on July 9, 1929 the son of Roland and Hazel (Durran) Davis. He was raised in Tunbridge where he attended public schools and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army from March 20, 1951 until his honorable discharge from service on January 3, 1957. Locally he held membership in the American Legion, Brattleboro Post #5. He had worked most of his career as a house painter for Momaney Painters. Of his pastimes and interests, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting deer ornaments and figurines, camping and playing BINGO. On July 31, 1964 at First Baptist Church in Brattleboro he was married to Barbara A. Sherwin who predeceased him on January 29, 2010. Survivors include one son, John Davis of Vernon, one daughter, Kathleen Davis also of Vernon, one step-son, A. Lyle Howe of Guilford, two step-daughters, Brenda Howe of Rockville, CT and Sandra Brys of Apollo Beach, FL, one sister, Ruth Roy, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside committal services with full military honors will be conducted in Tyler Cemetery in Vernon on Saturday, Nov. 7th at 2p.m. with Pastor Michael Gantt of Agape Christian Fellowship officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mr. Davis's name may be made to Vernon Volunteer Fire Dept., 2842 Fort Bridgman Road, Vernon, VT 05354 or to Brattleboro Area Hospice, 191 Canal St., Brattleboro, VT 05301.
