Rosemary Major Obituary




Hinsdale - Rosemary Major, 76 of Prospect Street, a lifelong resident of Hinsdale died peacefully Wednesday evening, February 8, 2017 at Pine Heights Nursing Home following a period of declining health. She had been a resident at the nursing home since September 2016.

Rosemary was born in Brattleboro on September 19, 1940 the daughter of Marcellus and Elsie (Fuller) Major. She was raised in Hinsdale attending public schools and was a graduate of Hinsdale High School, Class of 1958. She went on to attended the Thompson School for Practical Nursing in Brattleboro where she received her LPN degree and license.

She worked as a nurse at Eden Park Nursing Home and at the former Linden Lodge Nursing Home both in Brattleboro where she retired from following many years of faithful service. Previously she was employed as a dietician at the Ashuelot, NH Elementary School.

A devout Catholic, she was a lifelong communicant of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church (Mary, Queen of Peace Parish) where for over 50 years she served as church organist, recognized by the Pope for her music ministry. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters.

Known for her spirit of friendship and pleasant personality, Rosemary was very committed and dedicated to both her family and church.

Survivors include, one brother, Lewis "Lew" Major and his wife Mary of Hinsdale, and many nieces, nephews and their families as well as a host of friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, one brother, David Major and a half-sister Roselyn Truesdell.

SERVICES: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Joseph's Church in Hinsdale with Fr. Steve Marcoux celebrant. Committal Rites and burial in Saint Joseph's Parish Cemetery will be in the springtime.

Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 6 P.M.
