1918 - 2015 BRATTLEBORO Ruth A. Marine, 96, of Edwards Heights, a lifelong resident of town died peacefully Monday night, June 15, 2015 at the Thompson House following a period of declining health. Mrs. Marine was born in Brattleboro on August 22, 1918, the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Manning) Staples. She was raised in Brattleboro attending Saint Michael's Parochial School and was a graduate of Saint Michael's High School, Class of 1939. She worked in the dietary department at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital where she retired from in 2002 following over 28 years of faithful and devoted service at BMH.Previously she had been employed for Tri-Co Vending Company and in the cafeteria at Brattleboro Union High School. In her earlier years she worked for Bud Stebbins at the former Tom Thumb Snack Shop on Main Street. Mrs. Marine was known for her spirit of friendship and pleasant personality. A woman of faith, she was a lifelong communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church. Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed taking bus trips, visiting with her friends and time shared with her family. She especially enjoyed her home on Edward Heights where she resided for 62 years. On May 13, 1946 at Saint Michael's Catholic Church she was married to Harold F. "Fred" Marine. Her husband of 42 years predeceased her in 1988. Survivors include her son, David Marine and his wife, Denise of Holden, MA, four grandchildren, Christopher Moore, Allyson Eule, Melissa Woolfrey and Jennifer Massey, and 11 great-grandchildren. Additionally she leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one daughter, Lynda Ann Moore. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. James Dodson, celebrant. Committal Rites and burial will follow in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the start of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Marine's name may be made to, Saint Michael's School, 48 Walnut St., Brattleboro, VT 05301, Attn: Elaine Beam, Principal, or to the Thompson House Nursing Home Activities Fund, 80 Maple Street, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
