1935 - 2015 BRATTLEBORO Stephen Prescott Hill, formerly of Brattleboro, died at age 80 on August 31, 2015 at home in Windsor, VT due to complications of cancer. He was born on February 14, 1935 in Pittsburgh, PA to Buchanan Houston Hill and Marion Webb Strauch and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Stephen served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1960. On February 21, 1959, he married the love of his life, Joel Ann Goodrich, and moved to Washington DC. Stephen and Joel joined the Peace Corps in 1968 and served in Brazil for two years. Stephen had a B.A. from Williams College (1957), a J.D. from George Washington University Law School (1964) and an M.S. from Johns Hopkins University (1994). Stephen's teaching career began in 1971 at the Ashville School for Boys in North Carolina and he taught at various schools until 1990 when he began working at Johns Hopkins University. He was the Administrator of the Preventative Medicine Residency Program at Johns Hopkins University until his retirement in 2000. Stephen's passions included fishing and canoe camping in the Boundary Water Canoe Area in Northern, Minnesota. He also spent time volunteering for Alternatives to Violence for the Maryland Correctional Institute, Loaves and Fishes community kitchen in Brattleboro and Hospice in Brattleboro. Stephen will be greatly missed by many family and friends including his three children and six grandchildren: son, Houston Prescott Hill married to Heather Mason Hill and granddaughter, Sydney Ellen Hill; son, Coleman Goodrich Hill married to Amy Duhaime Hill and three granddaughters, Madeline Anne Hill, Juliette Lyons Hill, and Amelia Goodrich Hill; And daughter, Allison Rachel Hill and fiance, Adam John Carlson and two grandsons, Ian VanAmburgh McKenrick and Justin Sellers McKenrick. SERVICES: A Memorial Service will be held honoring Stephen's life on October 10, 2015 at 11a.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church Brattleboro with a reception immediately following the service.
