Sumner Glimcher Obituary

Vermont, CT, NYC resident Sumner Jules Glimcher, 93, died Feb. 27, 2018, in Boulder, CO. Born in 1924 in MA, Sumner was a WWII veteran and Purple Heart recipient. After the war, he served in the Allied Forces Denazification Program sending war criminals to Nuremberg.

A 1948 Harvard College graduate, he had a fulfilling career as an author, professor and filmmaker. Award-winning films include Fable Safe, North from Mexico, and Masterpieces of Chinese Art. An adjunct professor at Columbia University and Harvard College, he was President of MCI and Westminster Productions. He retired as Director, Department of Film, Video, and Broadcasting, NYU School of Continuing Education.

He was an active member of the Y's Men and Unitarian Church in Westport and the Dutch Treat, National Arts and Harvard clubs of NYC. In his final years, he happily moved to Boulder, CO to be close to family.

He is survived by three daughters and two granddaughters.

It was serendipitous that we found that Sumner lived near us in Westminster West, twenty years ago; a distant cousin, who became a part of our lives. We loved having him join our get togethers and just stopping in for breakfast. He always provided everyone with interesting conversation. We miss him.
