Susan Jane Nicholson, 60, of Cocoa Beach, FL died January 27, 2017 at Cape Canaveral Hospice in Cocoa Beach, FL, after a 20 month battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Glen Cove, NY on Oct. 13, 1956, the daughter of Tomas Martin and Marguerite "Peggy" (Mott) Nicholson.

A graduate of North Shore High School in Glen Head, NY in 1974.She earned an Associate of Science in General Education from Endicotte College in Beverly, MA, June 5, 1976. She attended New York Institute of Technology for her Bachelors of Science Degree, June 6, 1986.

In 1987 Susan taught kindergarten at Saint Patricks in Bay Shore Long Island, NY. Sue also worked at Earths Bounty, a natural food store in Woodbury, NY.

In 1990 Sue moved to Brattleboro, VT. Then later moved to Marlboro, VT. Sue managed Llama food store in Brattleboro from 1993 - 1998. In 1998 Sue went to work for Retail Insights as Director of Research, where she helped develop Natural Insight for Well Being, a nutritional newsletter. Until Nov. of 2016. Sue also worked at Verde Gift Shop in Brattleboro.

Sue's ultimate goal was to be a published writer, and was involved with two different writing groups in Marlboro. Sue loved going to the Brattleboro Literacy Festival each year.

Sue loved to read, garden, cook, cross country ski and play with her dogs and cat. Most of all Sue liked to ride her pink bike on the beach in Florida.

On February 5, 1995 Sue married Tomas DeVito, who was devoted to Sue until his death on May 18, 2006.

On March 19, 2012 Sues father passed away and Susan went to Cocoa Beach to take care of her mother Peggy. In January of 2015 Sues mother passed away. Where Sue and Dan purchased the 7th floor, ocean front condo that she loved.

Back in Marlboro in June of 2015, Sue was diagnosed with cancer. She took the fight to Dartmouth Hitchcock then to the Health First Cancer Center in Viera, Fl. and to Cancer Treatment Center of America in Newnan, GA. Sue always had hope that the tumors were going to shrink, then be surgically removed.

Sue was predeceased by her sister Bobbi McCoy to cancer, of Cocoa Beach, and is survived by two other sisters; Patricia and husband Joe Nuzzo of Smithtown, NY; Peggy Ann and husband Larry Knapp of Palm Bay, Fl; brothers; Thomas Jr. and wife Bernice of Omaha, NE and William (Nick) and wife Bonnie of Mechanicsville, VA and various nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: A memorial service is being held in Cocoa Beach, FL on April 23rd, 2017. Another memorial will be held in Brattleboro, VT on May 28th.

A Cruise-In for charity will be held on June 12, 2017 in Mechanicsville, VA.
