Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Ball 1933-2011 BURLINGTON, VT Rev. Msgr. Thomas J. Ball, 77, Rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, died unexpectedly Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Dover, N.H., on July 15, 1933, the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Bragg) Ball. Msgr. Ball was educated in Somersworth, N.H., schools, St. Anselm College, St. Mary's University and the Blessed Sacrament Seminary. On June 11, 1966, he was ordained a priest by the Most Rev. Robert F. Joyce. Msgr. Ball's priestly assignment was St. Charles Parish in Bellows Falls from 1966 to 1971under the guidance of his mentor, Msgr. Patrick Barry, Christ the King Parish in Rutland from 1971 to 1974, Christ the King Parish in Burlington from 1974 to 1976. He then became Pastor of St. Charles Parish from 1976 to 1987 and Rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington from 1987 to the present. Msgr. Ball served as Dean of Windham County for 10 years, on the Priest Benefit Fund Committee and Vocations Committee. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree and served as chaplain of the Knights of Columbus in Bellows Falls and Burlington, and a member of the American Legion and B.P.O.E. 916. Msgr. Ball was known as a gifted man with a giving heart. A man who loved his church, his parish, his family and his community. Msgr. Ball is survived by seven nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Robert Dupuis and his twin brother William G. Ball. FUNERAL NOTICE: Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with the Most Rev. Salvatore Matano, Bishop of Burlington as principle celebrant. Concelebrants will be the Rev. Msgr. Roland Rivard and the Rev. Pierre Lavallee. Homilist will be the Rev. Richard O'Donnell. Burial will be in the Dougherty, Ball and Dupuis Family lot in Rollinsford, NH Town Cemetery.
