Valerie V. "Val" Bly

1954 - 2015 GUILFORD Valerie V. "Val" Bly, 60, of Guilford Center Road died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, April 28, 2015 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Val was born in Brattleboro on Sept. 26, 1954, the daughter of Stillman and Shirley (Cole) Squiers. She was raised and educated in Guilford and was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, Class of 1972. At the time of her passing she was employed as a Mental Health Worker at the Brattleboro Retreat, where she had been employed for the past 25 years. Previously she worked as an EMT for LeFevre Ambulance Service in Bellows Falls, had worked at several nursing homes in Brattleboro, and had been employed on a part-time basis at Hinsdale Raceway, Moles Eye Cafe, and at the Marina Restaurant. Val was a very giving person and served as a volunteer for Rescue Inc. and at Gerda's Animal Aid, Inc. in West Townshend. She was an avid reader, an excellent cook, and enjoyed working with children. She also loved the outdoors and camping with her family. Survivors include her two sons, Wallace Bly and fiancee, Samantha Scruggs, of Guilford, and Zackery Forcier and fiancee, Jennifer Chase, of Vernon; her mother, Shirley Cole Squiers; her longtime family friend, Skip Bly of Vernon; two brothers, Anthony Squiers and wife, Mary, and their daughter, Sarah, and John Squiers and daughter, Abigail, of Guilford; and two grandchildren, Korrin and Ciara. Additionally she leaves many nieces and nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Shilo Lynn Bly; her father, Stillman Squiers; and grandparents, Clifford and Catherine Squiers. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday May 9, 12 - 3 p.m. at the Fraternal order of the Eagles. There are no formal funeral services planned.
