1931 - 2016 BRATTLEBORO, VT Virginia Jean Tyler, 84, of Greenleaf Street, a lifelong resident of Brattleboro died Monday Evening, April 18, 2016 at the Thompson House Nursing Home where she had been a resident since mid-January. Jean was born in Brattleboro on October 20, 1931, the daughter of Ossip and Teofila (Kobus) Urko. She was raised and educated in Brattleboro graduating from Brattleboro High School, Class of 1949. She had worked as bookkeeper for the family business, A.L. Tyler & Son Electric, Inc. for 40 years retiring in 1994. Previously she had been employed at the former Dunham Shoe Company working as bookkeeper for the wholesale division of the company. For many years with her husband she wintered in Naples, Florida where she enjoyed playing golf, becoming club champion at her golfing community in 1994. She was a faithful and devoted wife and homemaker whose life centered around her family. Jean loved family gatherings, time shared with her grandchildren and great grandchildren following all their sports endeavors. She spent countless hours as room mother for all three of her children at the time they were growing up and also served as a Brownie leader and Cub Scout den mother. Of her other leisure time activities, Jean enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and taking long walks. She also enjoyed time spent at the family camp in Wilmington. She was a lifelong communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Brattleboro Country Club. On August 4, 1951 at Saint Michael's Catholic Church she was married to Donald L. Tyler who survives. Besides her husband of 64 years she leaves one son, Kelly Tyler and wife Erin of Brattleboro, one daughter, Brenda LaRock and her husband Rocky of Guilford, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Gregory Tyler. FUENRAL SERVICE: Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12:00 Noon at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home. Burial and committal services will follow in West Brattleboro Cemetery on Mather Road. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 6 P.M.
