1931 - 2015 ROWE, MASS. Wendell Louis Stetson, 83, of Hazelton Road passed away Friday morning, May 8, 2015 at Poet's Seat Healthcare Center in Greenfield. Mr. Stetson was born in Hinsdale, N.H. on August 19, 1931, the son of William and Helen (Koski) Stetson, Sr. He was raised and educated in Hinsdale, graduating from Hinsdale High School, Class of 1949. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict serving on board the USS Stoddard. He was honorably discharged from active service at the rank of Machinist Third Class on December 31, 1954. Mr. Stetson worked as a switchman for New England Power Co. in Readsboro and Wilmington, Vt. from where he retired following 35 years of faithful service with the company. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors, the American Legion Post #172 in Orange, Mass. and was a former communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Brattleboro. On October 1, 1955 at Saint Michael's Catholic Church he was married to Jane Bovie who survives. Besides his wife of 59 years, he leaves one son, Eric Stetson of Keene; a grandson, Tristan Stetson also of Keene; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, William, and Gordon Stetson; and a sister, Barbara Stetson. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside committal rites and burial will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery. There are no calling hours at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wendell's name may be made to the Franklin County Dog Shelter, 10 Sandy Lane, Turners Falls, MA 01376.
