William J. Doyle Obituary
After having lived a grand life of 94 years, William "Bill" Joseph Doyle died on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in Natick, Massachusetts with his wife of 70 years and eldest daughter both by his side.

Born at Women's Hospital in Manhattan, NY to Katherine Phelan and William Doyle, Bill was the eldest of three children. He met Dorothy Rose Bolger when he was but five, their mothers strolling together with the children down the streets of New York City. Bill and Dorothy began dating during high school and pledged their love for one another before Bill left to serve his country in World War II. Bill served in the United States Navy for 2.5 years aboard the USS Sterlet (SS 392), earning the rank of Electrician's Mate, first class. Upon returning from the war, Bill and Dorothy were married on February 15th, 1947 at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Bayside, Long Island. Over the next 15 years their family would grow from just two to a happy eight.

Their married lives took Bill and Dorothy from the Bronx, Manhattan and Long Island to North Carolina, Montana, Vermont and Massachusetts, with a few stints in Europe during their later years- most notably, a year in London and a month in Luca, Italy when they were well into their 80s! Bill worked his entire life, never remaining idle even after retiring from his career as an electrician. Bill was a house manager for Ralph Lauren, an inn and shopkeeper in Vermont and a lifelong crafter of everything from artisanal furnishing to farm houses and barns.

Those who have been fortunate enough in life to know and love Bill Doyle will remember a man with a wit honed and razor sharp, always at the ready. He will be remembered for his unwavering can-do spirit, for his strong hands weathered from a lifetime of hard honest work. Those hands will also be remembered for the simple but lovely art they deftly pulled from plain planks of wood-art in the form of tables big and small, cabinets, book shelves, painted mirrors, even an entire house. He will be remembered for his kind and steady wisdom, for the immense love he held for his wife and entire family, for being just and constant in a world that is anything but. Those who knew him will also know how he would shrug at these words, crack a joke, and change the subject-for in his own mind this singular man wasn't anything extraordinary. But he was. He most certainly was.

Left to honor Bill and remember his light are his wife of 70 years, Dorothy, their six children: William James Doyle (Audrey Doyle), Clare Doyle (James McGinniss), Robert Doyle (Gregory Parks), Anne Doyle, Beth Bean (Chris Bean) and David Doyle (Pamela Custode); eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother Theodore and sister Kay.

Should you wish to make a gift in memory of William, the family requests that donations be made to VNA Hospice & Palliative Care (www.vnacare.org) or the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society (www.nmcrs.org)
