1914 - 2016 Brattleboro- Yvonne M. Highter of Brattle Street died peacefully, Wednesday afternoon October 19, 2016 in the comfort of her home with her family at her side. Yvonne was 102 years old. Mrs. Highter was born in Montpelier, Vermont on February 14, 1914 the daughter of Edmund and Eugenie (Rousseau) Gingras. She was raised and educated in Montpelier attending Saint Michael's Parochial School graduating from Saint Michael's High School, Class of 1932. A resident of Brattleboro since 1948, Mrs. Highter has been employed as a sales associate at the former J.E. Mann Store working in the baby and toddler department. Previously she worked for several years in the S&H Green Stamp Store in Brattleboro. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Brattleboro and was a member of the Daughter of Isabella, Ava Maria Circle #128. Of her leisure time activities, she enjoyed cooking, knitting, sewing and going on camping trips with her family. On October 4, 1937 at Saint Augustine's Church in Montpelier she was married to Alfred Highter who predeceased her in 1989. Survivors include two daughters, Judith Austin and her husband Larry of Montpelier and Jean Highter of Brattleboro; one son, John Highter of Brattleboro, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special young woman, her caregiver, Katie Bristol. She was predeceased by one son, Douglas who died in infancy, two brothers, Adrian and Bernard Gingras, and two sisters, Marie Doyle and Rita Rivers. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. Justin Baker, pastor, celebrant. Committal Rites and burial will take place in Saint Augustine Parish Cemetery in Montpelier. There are no calling hours at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Highter's name may be made to Saint Michael's School, 48 Walnut Street, Brattleboro, VT 05301, in care of Elaine Beam, principal or to Visiting Nurse and Hospice of VT & NH, P.O.
