Chester A. "Chet" Deaett

1920-2014 BRATTLEBORO Chester Andrew "Chet" Deaett, 93, of Fuller Drive died Saturday afternoon, January 25, 2014 at Pine Heights Nursing Home where he had been a resident since December. Mr. Deaett was born in East Providence, R.I. on May 30, 1920 the son of Elton and Alice (Fournier) Deaett. He was raised and educated in Providence graduating from Providence Trade School. Mr. Deaett later served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II stationed in China, Burma and India. Upon his honorable discharge from active service at the rank of Staff Sargent he moved to Brattleboro. Mr. Deaett worked all of his career as a licensed plumber employed for several Brattleboro companies that included Loney Construction, Cote Plumbing & Heating, Gilbert Plumbing and Morton Plumbing. He was a communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church and at the time his children were being raised he served as a Scout leader. On May 13, 1946 at Saint Michael's Catholic Church he was married to Marion Towle who survives. Besides his wife of 67 years he leaves three sons, Michael Deaett of North Kingston, R.I., Douglas Deaett, M.D. of Hanover, N.H. and Francis Deaett of Hinsdale; two daughters, Sr. Janet Deaett, S.N.D. of Lowell, Mass. and Mary Deaett of Danville, Vt.; one brother, Peter Deaett of Romona, Calif.; two sisters, Alice Shread of Falmouth, Mass. and Marjorie Wallace of Hueytown, Ala. Additionally, he is survived by three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Harold Deaett. The Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated Friday at 1 p.m. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Rev. James Dodson, pastor, celebrant. Burial in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery with military honors will take place in the springtime when the cemetery reopens.
