Stillman C. Squiers
1935 - 2014 GUILFORD Stillman Charles "Stib" Squiers, 79, of Guilford Center Road, died Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Mr. Squiers was born in Brattleboro on Feb. 9, 1935, the son of Clifford and Catherine Gallup Squiers. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro, later attending Randolph Agricultural Tech School. He had been employed by the town of Guilford Highway Department for several years and previously had worked at the former BookPress in Brattleboro. Following retirement he worked on a part-time basis, driving trucks for LaRock Construction and Jeff Clark Construction. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, horses, horse racing and gardening. He was known for his large vegetable garden located on his property on Guilford Center Road. On April 21, 1954, in Westminster, he was married to Shirley Cole. Besides his devoted wife of almost 60 years, he leaves his son, Anthony and wife, Mary, and granddaughter, Sarah and her boyfriend Rob; his son, John and granddaughter, Abigail; his daughter, Valerie Bly and longtime family friend, Skip Bly, grandson Wallace and his girlfriend, Sam, and grandson, Zack and his fiance, Jenn; his two great-grandchildren, Korin and Ciara; one brother, Donald Squires, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Webster and Barney Squires and a sister, Gretchen, who died in infancy. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service, in celebration of his life, will be conducted Saturday, March 22, at 11 a.m. at the Guilford Community Church. A reception will follow the services.
