Harold E. Nichols Sr.
1939 - 2014 HINSDALE Harold E. "Harry" Nichols Sr., 74, of Butler Avenue, died Sunday night, April 20, 2014, in the comfort of his home, with his family at his side, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Nichols was born in West Halifax, Vt., on June 20, 1939, the son of Leo and Nellie Snow Nichols. He was raised and educated in Marlboro and had attended Brattleboro High School. He was a proud veteran who served in the Army Infantry and upon his honorable discharge from active service, returned to the area where he worked as a logger for many years. He had been employed by Allard Lumber Co. in Brattleboro, Cook Timber Harvesting, and Beaman Lumber Co., both of Winchester. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, gardening, riding ATV's, and time shared with his family, especially his grandchildren. On Sep. 4, 1961, at Saint Anne's Shrine in Sturbridge, Mass., he was married to Mary Vallee, who survives. Besides his faithful and loving wife of 52 years, he leaves three sons, Harold Jr., Donald, and Timothy, all of Hinsdale; two daughters, Carol Bascom and Mary Howe, both of Hinsdale; five brothers, six sisters, 16 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas Nichols and a daughter, Beverly Howe. FUNERAL NOTICE: In accordance with Mr. Nichol's final wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. Burial, in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery in Hinsdale, will take place at a later date.
