Catherine E. Ferris

1940 - 2014 VERNON Catherine E. Ferris, 73, of Stebbins Road, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 2014, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Mrs. Ferris was born in Pittson, Penn., on July 13, 1940, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Lahey Hughes. She was raised and educated in Newark, N.J., and was a graduate of Essex Catholic High School in Newark. A former resident of South Toms River, N.J., she had been employed as a retail sales associate for the Boscov Department Store in Toms River. Mrs. Ferris moved to Vernon four years ago and was very active with the Vernon Seniors, serving as co-treasurer, while enjoying taking bus and day trips with the group. Of her leisure time activities she especially enjoyed attending plays and time shared with her family and friends. She also loved the beach. She was very proud of her Irish heritage. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose life centered around her family. Survivors include two sons, Robert A. Ferris of Naples, Fla. and Thomas A. Ferris and his wife, Melissa, of Vernon; one daughter, Catherine Ferris Conroy and her husband, James, of Bayville, N.J.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents as well as a son, Michael Ferris.
