Modesta L. Vigneau

1924 - 2014 VERNON Modesta Lena, "Moe" Vigneau, 90, of Tyler Hill Road passed away Monday evening, Aug. 11, 2014 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health. Mrs. Vigneau was born in Turners Falls, Mass. on June 25, 1924 the daughter of Ferdinand and Lena (Gallant) Engerman. She was raised and educated in Turners Falls graduating from Turners Falls High School with the Class of 1942. A resident of Vernon since 1953 and a former resident of Brattleboro, for 17 years she had been employed at the former Town Crier and previously had worked at the Vernon Elementary School. In her earlier years she had been employed at the former Tap & Die Company in Greenfield. Mrs. Vigneau was a faithful and devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was known for her quiet and gentle demeanor and enjoyed being at home and spending time with her family as well as her beloved pet cats, Ginger and George. Of her pastimes and interests, she enjoyed gardening, her flowers, fishing, jigsaw and word search puzzles, and traveling. She was a communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church and a former parishioner of Saint Mary's Parish in Turners Falls. On June 7, 1947 at Saint Mary's Church in Turners Falls she was married to William H. Vigneau. Her husband of 62 years predeceased her on Oct. 3, 2009. Survivors include one son, Timothy Vigneau, of Putney, a daughter, Kathy Vigneau, of Brattleboro, one sister, Annette E. Vigneau, of Brattleboro, five grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. Additionally she leaves several nieces, nephews, and her dedicated caregiver/granddaughter, Jamie Vigneau. She was predeceased by one son, William H. Vigneau, Jr., who died on Feb. 12, 2014, one brother, Ferdinand Engerman, Jr. and a sister, Genevieve Legere. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the V.F.W. Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034 on Black Mountain Road in Brattleboro. Burial in the family lot in Saint Mary's Parish Cemetery in Turners Falls will take place at a later date in October.
