Obituary Condolences

Susan M. Adamek MANCHESTER, CONN. Susan Margaret Blanchard Adamek, retired Director of the Manchester Community College Child Development Center, passed away suddenly from a heart aneurysm on Thursday, June 23, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin B. and Emagene S. Blanchard. She was the loving mother of Gretchen Sue Adamek, and the sister of Brett T. Blanchard and Karen J.S. Blanchard. In addition to her daughter and her siblings, she leaves a legacy of the young lives she shaped, and the educators she helped train. Sue was an indefatigable supporter of environmental issues. She adored nature, and particularly in her daily life: birds, squirrels, and groundhogs. She loved to garden, and even if her arthritis slowed her, she hired people to help her. In her small space at her condo, she had at least 40 Iris, a bleeding heart, columbine, and truly, the most beautiful spring space. She loved the ocean, and took solace from its soothing power, and the soft polished stones it bestowed. She often carried one or two in her pocket. She was also a champion of public broadcasting. She supported both CPTV and WGBY, as well as WFCR, an NPR affiliate. Sue and her daughter were avid supporters of The Hartford Stage Company, season ticketholders for almost 20 years. She also loved cats, in particular Siamese. She loved and leaves behind Miss Pink and Gracie. They will live with her daughter and her daughter's kitty Triscuit. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial donations may be made to Hartford Stage. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at the WATKINS FUNERAL HOME, 142 East Center Street, Manchester, with burial to follow in the East Cemetery in Manchester. Visiting hours are Tuesday, June 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. To sign the online guestbook please visit www.holmes-watkinsfuneralhomes.com.
