1987-2013 HINSDALE,NH Dustin Charles Curtiss, 26 of High Street died early Monday morning, October 14, 2013 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass. A lifelong resident of Hinsdale he was born in Brattleboro on August 11, 1987 the son of Mark and Cindy (Petrie) Curtiss. He attended Hinsdale schools and was a graduate of Hinsdale High School, Class of 2005. While attending high school Dustin played varsity soccer his junior and senior years, JV baseball as well as Babe Ruth, and was known for his athletic ability that included long distance running. He competed in several marathons and half-marathons. He also excelled in the martial arts and was active with Rouleau- Holley's Tae Kwon Do of Brattleboro and continued to train while active in the U.S. Marine Corp. He proudly served his nation in the U.S. Marine Corp for the past eight years stationed in San Diego, CA and Jacksonville; FL. Dustin had completed a year tour of duty in Iraq. He would have been honorably discharged from active service on Thursday, October 17Th at the rank of Sergeant. Prior to his military service Dustin worked on several farms in Hinsdale that included Echo Farms and at Clearwater Farms owned by Gary Beaman. He had also been employed at Fireside True Value in Brattleboro. He had a strong work ethic and was known wherever he worked as a valuable employee. Of his leisure time activities, Dustin enjoyed body building, mechanics, working on small engines and tinkering on cars. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Hinsdale and a former member of the 4-H Club of Cheshire County. Dustin was a communicant of Mary Queen of Peace Parish in Hinsdale. On October 18, 2008 in San Diego, CA he was married to Hannah Wiest who survives. Besides his wife of five years he leaves one daughter, Kalyn, at home, his parents of Hinsdale, one sister Krystie Curtiss-Robinson and her partner Katy of Newfane, paternal grandparents Edwin and Marguerite Curtiss of Guilford and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Additionally he leaves a large host of friends both locally and in the U.S. Marine Corp. Dustin was predeceased by is maternal grandparents, Louise and Herman Petrie and maternal step-grandmother Barbara (Puffer) Petrie. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Michael Roman Catholic Church, Walnut Street in Brattleboro with Fr. Stephen Marcoux, pastor of Saint Joseph's Church celebrant. Committal Rites and burial with full military honors will follow in Saint Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Hinsdale. Following the committal services a reception will take place at the V.F.W. Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034 on Black Mountain Road in Brattleboro. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M.
