Robert J. Barry

1936-2013 WEST DOVER Robert J. Barry, passed away October 20, 2013 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Robert was born in Teaneck, New Jersey on May 24, 1936 the son of the late Charles Waters and Irene (Rolfe) Barry. He received his early education at St. Anastasia in Teaneck, graduated from St. Cecelia's High School in Englewood, New Jersey and Fordham University. Robert was employed by the Mobil Oil Corporation as International Account Manager, retiring after 40 years of service. Upon retirement he worked at Stratton Mountain Corporation in group sales and running their concierge program. While in New Jersey at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Robert organized the first lector group, was a Eucharistic minister, member of the parish council, ran two benefits for the parish that starred Tony Bennett, was diocesan chairperson of pre-cana and President of the Holy Name Society. While residing in River Edge, New Jersey Robert was President of the River Edge Swim Club, a board member of the River Edge Library and March of Dimes Fund raising Chairman. Upon moving to Vermont, Robert was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church in Wilmington where he was a member of the parish council. While living in Dover, Vermont, Robert was a member of the select board for two years and a member of the Lister Board for five years. Robert was an avid golfer and cherished times spent with his family especially his grandchildren. Robert is survived by his wife, the former Carol Ryan of West Dover whom he married on April 12, 1958 at Madonna in Fort Lee, New Jersey; his children, Mark Barry and his companion Jennifer Toothman of Dumont, New Jersey, Mary Melnick and her husband Donald of Pompton Plains, New Jersey, and Theresa Hornish and her husband Kevin of Glen Rock, New Jersey; grandchildren, Kevin Barry, Erin Barry and Ryan Hornish; his two devoted Golden Retrievers, Maggie and Kelly; sister-in-law, Marilyn Barry of Paramus, New Jersey; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Alfred Barry; his great aunt, Mary Elisabeth Guymer; and his grandmother, Clara Guymer. FUNERAL NOTICE: A mass of Christian death and burial will be celebrated Tuesday October 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in River Edge. Interment will follow in the family lot in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tenafly, New Jersey. The family will receive friends at COVEY-ALLEN & SHEA FUNERAL HOME, 44 East Main Street, Wilmington, Vermont on Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Beaugard Funeral Home 869 Kinderkamack Road River Edge, New Jersey.
